An unlikely candidate did come forward and showed real interest in taking over the factory and all. On April 1, 1980, a formal agreement was made public, Aston Martin had acquired MG. Unfortunately, shortly after the agreement was signed, Aston Martin’s source of financing dried up. MG was advised that the deal was no longer viable and MGB’s future was over.
